The department was established in 1950, becoming one of the oldest and most traditional department in this university. In master's course, students are trained to be legal researchers who have acquired legal knowledge to arrive at sound judgments. They study the basic theories of law or legal systems, and to learn the methods to apply these theories to actual legal problems. In the doctorate course, students not only study the abstruse principles of each major field of law thoroughly, but also the related laws in Korean and foreign states' jurisprudence. An in-depth or critical review of each nation's legal systems and theories of their laws would provide-students with creative legal expertise to take on important roles for improving future legal theories.
