Lunchtime Dilemma: Where to Eat and Relax?
The CheongDae Times probationary reporter Geum-bi You
The lobby on the first floor of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences is currently utilized as a space for dining, studying, and relaxation. Especially during lunchtime, the number of students naturally increases, leading to a more crowded environment. I heard discussions about 'space' and 'meals' to help students enjoy their school life more conveniently.
Sunwoo Lee, a student majoring in Advertising and Public Relations from the Class of 23, said, ”In the past, there was no area for lunch in the lobby, but now I can have a simple meal or hold a meeting here, “ positively assessing the use of the space.
Naeun Hong, a student from the Department of Korean Language Education, Class of '21, said, "I often use this space during my breaks to work on assignments or review classes because the central library is far." She emphasized that the lobby is a useful space for students in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. However, she mentioned with disappointment, "I tried to have lunch alone, but it was difficult to use the space because there were only chairs and no tables.
Sujeong Kang, a student from China, class of 24, said, “It’s difficult to use the space during lunchtime because there aren't enough seats, and this becomes even more challenging during exam periods.” She suggested adding more seats or rearranging the space to address this issue.
As such, the lobby becomes crowded with students having lunch during peak hours. Actively using partner restaurants affiliated with Cheongju University during this time could help reduce the inconvenience caused by the lack of available seating.
Partner restaurants are operated through the Hey Young Campus app. From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., students can receive discounts when they pay with their student ID card, which is based on a Shinhan Card, at designated convenience stores, restaurants, and cafes. If they click the “Get Lunch Money” button on the event page by 6 p.m. on the same day, 50% of the payment amount is credited back as My Shinhan Points.
It’s important to note that payment must be made using a Shinhan Hey Young, S20, SOL Travel, or SOL Global U Check Card. A key advantage of the program is that 31 locations are affiliated.
A student who discovered that one of their frequently visited restaurants was a partner store said, “It would be even better if that kind of information were shared through Everytime or Cheongju University’s Instagram account.”
